Designing a Vision:
A Capital Campaign for Community Arts Growth
Client:
Batesville Area Arts Council (BAAC)
Description:
I developed and executed a capital campaign to raise $50,000 for the expansion of the BAAC workshop space. The expansion would help BAAC better serve the Batesville community’s growing demand for arts programs for both children and adults.
Goals:
Raise $50,000 for the workshop expansion
Engage sponsors and individual donors through targeted donation levels
Scope:
Campaign Strategy & Sponsorship Development
Created a tiered sponsorship structure with unique benefits, such as naming rights, recognition plaques, and private donor events.
3D Mockups & Space Visualization
Designed visual renderings of the expanded space, helping donors visualize the future facility.
Marketing Collateral Design
Designed mailers, sponsorship proposals, and banners to engage donors.
Impact Messaging
Crafted messaging that emphasized the increased capacity for participants, the introduction of new programs, and the tangible impact on the local community.
Sponsorship Proposal
I researched best practices for corporate and community sponsorships to develop a tiered approach that would resonate with both individual donors and local businesses. The research focused on what motivates sponsors to contribute. I found that high-level donors are most attracted to opportunities that give them visibility, particularly through naming rights, public recognition, and long-term engagement.
Excerpt: “Your business will not only contribute to the enrichment of our local arts scene but also enjoy ongoing recognition through prominent placement in our newly renovated spaces, including opportunities for naming rights, private event access, and the 1st Year Impact Report, which highlights how your contribution has made a tangible difference in the lives of local artists and participants.”
Sponsorship Mailer
Before creating the mailer, I researched BAAC’s workshop participation. In 2023, the Summer Art Camp reached full capacity with 122 participants, and over 20 more were waitlisted due to limited space. I included these numbers in the mailer to emphasize the high demand for arts programs and the urgent need for expansion.
Excerpt: “BAAC is witnessing an extraordinary level of interest in arts programming from our community. However, our existing workshop space limits the number of people we can serve and the programming we can offer. But there’s good news. We’re expanding our workshop space. We just need your help!”
